INDOOR JUST FOR FUN ARCHERY LEAGUE 2025/2026

What is it?

The League is a group of Nanaimo Fish and Game members who enjoy indoor target archery through the winter. If you are a casual or competitive archer, 3D enthusiast, target shooter, or field archer, young or old, this could be the place for you.   It provides a great chance to track your progress throughout the indoor season.  It is a good place to share knowledge with other archers and improve your skills.  A handicap system will allow some friendly competitions during the season.  The rules are very informal and scoring and play are self-regulated and designed to make it convenient for participants.

Participant Information

Who can participate?

Any member of the Nanaimo Fish and Game can participate,

How can I join the fun?

Just let the Shoot Coordinator (Kevin Burkinshaw) know you are going to play. You can start at any time during  the indoor season. (Oct 27th, 2025 until May 3rd, 2026) .You can let Kevin know at the range that you are going to play and what category(s) you will shoot in….or email justforfunindoorarcheryleague@gmail.com .

Categories are Compound, Recurve Sighted, Barebow, Longbow, and Youth under 15 years old

When can I Shoot?

The shoot runs from Oct 27th 2025 until May 3rd 2026.

There is no designated time for shooting League scores.  Shooters can shoot anytime within the week.  One of the goals of the League is to give archers a taste of what tournament archery is all about, so if you can it is encouraged that archers shoot in groups and try and simulate tournament conditions.

Shooters submit one score each week to the Shoot Coordinator justforfunindoorarcheryleague@gmail.com (more if they are shooting multiple bow categories). Weeks run from Monday until Sunday.  It is the responsibility of the shooters to submit the scores.  It is OK if one person’s email contains scores for multiple people.  Submitting the final score rather than the score card is all that is required.

Archers can submit any score they have shot at the range throughout the week, again, if it is possible archers submit scores shot in situations that simulate shooting in a tournament environment, e.g with a group, a start end agreed beforehand etc.

What are the rules?

The game is based on the Canadian 300 Round,

30 arrows, 10 ends of 3 arrows, shot consequently with a predetermined start end.

Adults shoot on 40 cm targets (either full face or three spot, archer’s choice)

For compound shooters only the inner ring, Compound 10-ring, shall score 10, the rest of the yellow scoring zone shall score 9

Youth shoot on a 60 cm target, except compound shooters.

No bows over 60 # draw weight are allowed on the indoor range.

Arrows breaking the plane of a scoring line are scored at the higher level

There are no judges involved so arrow calls are by the majority of the archers present, in the case of a tie the higher score prevails.

Where/when can I see my scores?

Each scoring week runs from the Monday to the Sunday.

The previous week’s scores and tracking will be emailed to participants on Monday (a google doc will be set up for the score card and lnik shared soon).

The scores will be posted at the range.

The tracking sheet will show the highest score for each category for each week.  It will also show, once you have entered 5 scores, the average of your 5 highest scores.  This number will be used to establish handicaps for events shot within the season.

The sheet will also track improvement of your five highest scores.

Who Wins?

Everyone!  It is a fun League, some small prizes may be available for a play down event half way through and at the end.  I am open to other ideas, just let me know.

Tournaments

Depending on demand tournaments will be scheduled to have archers gather for friendly competition during the year.  January plus early May are being considered for an event, details to be released later.  Any suggestions from participants will be considered for other events.
